Falling Standards

The more I look around on the news and in media in general it would seem standards are falling all around us and frankly nobody seems to of noticed. That or frankly it seems as a society we have just given up. The analogy of the frog and the pot of boiling water instantly spring to mind. Perhaps as a society we have been in the boiling water for some time and only now it has come to some of our attentions.

Am I the asshole?

I ordered a McDonalds the other day and had it delivered (...I'm lazy go figure..) It wasn't a large order, large big mac meal for myself, burger and fries for my daughter and selects and fries for my wife, all meals with drinks. We also added extra fries and mcFlyrry's (one for me and one for my wife) When it came it was sealed indicating they had loaded it into a bag, checked it. So when we unpacked and found items were missing it totally pissed me off. I mean, not a hard job reading a checklist and putting it into a bag., and only a handful of items at that. I mean how the hell do you fuck that up???

More to the point, how do we normalise that? How do we just come to accept the fact if we pay for something with the expectation of it being correct and indeed what we paid for and then when it's wrong we shrug and say it's ok?

What other part of life is this line of thought acceptable?

Pay for a house and they give they keys to someone else?....pay for a cinema ticket they forget to start the projector?

In my opinion this whole fall in standards started a long time ago and we've only just started to realise. Or at least some of us have. Others seem to have accepted this as normal, dare I say even acceptable or even the norm?! Standards are not something we should throw away, not something we should let slip otherwise recovery is almost impossible.

The Wider Picture

If we take this into a more wider context like politics for example. How many news headlines have we come to hear of some politician or other embezzling money, or cheating on their spouse?

Does it still shock you?

No?

So you've become used to it eh?

Thank you, my point exactly. With everything that's going on in the world we should be up in arms, we should be marching in the streets. - Remember like we did back when we protested the poltax? These days are long gone and we seem to be immune to shock and locked in some kind of lethargic state.

We need to wake the world up, we need to start kicking off when these things happen or what's the point? We might as well just roll over and die...
